Pelvic Pain
Overview of pelvic pain:
Pelvic pain includes discomfort in the lower abdomen, hips, deep in the pelvis, or the pelvic floor. The pain can range from dull aches and pressure to sharp, stabbing sensations. This type of pain may be constant or intermittent and is often misunderstood or misdiagnosed Everyone experiences pelvic pain a little bit differently, so you might describe it slightly different than someone else. We are here to help you navigate the journey of pelvic pain and get you feeling better!
Common causes:
Pelvic pain may stem from conditions like endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, pelvic floor muscle tension, nerve entrapment, or previous surgeries and childbirth. Emotional trauma and stress can also contribute to persistent pain, which is why we take a holistic approach to make sure we are addressing more than just the physical symptoms.
Impact on life:
Chronic pelvic pain can deeply affect emotional well-being. Many women feel unheard or dismissed by providers. It can lead to social withdrawal, difficulty with intimacy, fear of movement, and a constant preoccupation with avoiding flare-ups. The pain can interfere with sitting, driving, exercise, work, and sleep—leading to frustration, anxiety, and a sense of loss of control. We understand how heavily this might be weighing on you and we want to help lighten the load. If your pain is ruling your life, we want to help put you back in the driver’s seat!
How pelvic floor therapy helps:
Pelvic floor therapy at Moms in Motion takes a whole-body approach to uncover and address the root causes. We use hands-on techniques to release tight muscles and fascia, improve mobility, and calm the nervous system. Education and empowerment are key elements of our care.
Our treatment:
We begin with a thorough evaluation and create a plan based on your needs. For pain conditions, we tend to perform a lot of manual therapy, or hands-on techniques to help release tension in the tissues and recalibrate the receptors in your muscles, fascia, and joints. We focus a lot on breathing techniques to help modulate your nervous system and help realign your brain-body connections, as these are often changed when it comes to pain conditions. We also work on small lifestyle changes you can make that can have dramatic impacts. Oftentimes, we mention a habit that you are unaware that you do and working to stop it can make a huge difference in your pain. We give just 2-3 home exercises each week to help you return to the activities you love with more confidence and less pain.
